Bead Weaving
It was only after I retired that I discovered Bead Weaving. I was teaching in South Korea for two semesters so I wanted to take my knitting with me, but it was too bulky. Someone told me about bead knitting which used much smaller materials so during the time in South Korea I taught myself bead knitting. I soon tired of bead knitting, but I loved working with beads because of the way they seem to reflect on each other and seem to want to blend. When I came home from South Korea, I looked for something else to do with beads and discovered bead weaving on a loom. So, I ordered book and a loom and taught myself how to bead weave on a loom. I went to study with Don Pierce who was a leading bead weaver and then went to Japan to study with a leading bead weaver there. It was later that I discovered Off-loom Bead Weaving, which is mostly what I do now. In recent days I have become interested in making beaded objects –trinket boxes, urns, and flowers. I also enjoy teaching bead weaving. I have been a teacher all of my adult life and teaching bead weaving gives me great joy to share what I have learned.
